The images on Holabird are so poor we can't make out if they are even real photographs!

Holabird Sports boast that they have been serving us since 1981, and judging by the design of the site, they haven’t moved with the times. Disorganized and poor quality, Holabird desperately needs to bring their site into the 21^st century.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded.

This sports shop works on a very basic navigation platform, with menus that filter down by item and brand. However, at least this simple system is easy to use and if you do know the specifics of the item you are looking for, you can tap into their ‘Advanced Search’ tool which is actually pretty comprehensive.

What kind of brands do they offer? Is this the real McCoy or 'off the back of a truck'? Also see Range of Brands.

It is a shame that this site looks so dated, because they have a good range of brands on offer. Holabird focuses on racquet sports and all the big names are represented on the site. However, though there are plenty of brands, there aren’t so many products (only one pair of Adidas training shoes for example) so the choice is limited.

If you have the option to receive your item by ground shipping, the prices are pretty reasonable. However, again Holabird are guilty of being behind the times, with their extra payments for non-contiguous states, inability to send some items by air and no international orders accepted at all.

Though there are the standard ways of getting in touch with Holabird, response can be very slow over email. When it comes to returns, make sure you read the requirements carefully, particularly if you are returning or exchanging a racquet.

How good is the image quality? Can you see the product you want to buy?.

The images on the site are the sole worst feature of Holabird and are responsible for plunging this site into our Flops. Photos are terrible quality, it is almost like you are viewing them under water, and there are some product images that look suspiciously like drawings…

How detailed is the description of products/services? Quality, detail and scope of text.

Seeing as you don’t have any decent images to go buy, it is lucky that the descriptions are, on the whole, pretty detailed. Their specialty in tennis products shows, as they have an impressive amount of info, but a lot of the other standard sports gear needs attention as well.

You will come across reduced products with ‘close out’ prices, but there is no sale section where you can view all the reduced products. It is hit or miss on Holabird whether you will find a bargain or not.

Is this shop going to cost the earth? Do they offer reasonable prices in comparison to other online sports shops?.

Holabird are a bit sneaky in the way in which they present their prices; by calling it ‘Our Price’ and putting it against the RRP, you assume that you are making a saving. However, on most products ‘Our Price’ IS the RRP, and if it is a choice between shopping on the Adidas site of Holabird, paying the same, we know where we would go!
